A New Chapter: Joining the Chilterns Neuro Centre

Kit Li

When one door closes, another opens. As I take a break from my volunteer role at Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, a new chapter begins.

I am honoured to have been accepted as a volunteer neuro-acupuncturist at the Chilterns Neuro Centre (CNC) in Wendover, Buckinghamshire. This is a role I have hoped to undertake since the very beginning of my journey as a neuro-acupuncturist.

The centre supports approximately 800 members. Most come from Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire, although some travel from as far as London.

As an independent charity, CNC relies largely on community generosity, with funding from trusts and foundations, personal donations, gifts in wills, corporate partnerships and fundraising events.

Its mission is to improve the quality of life of people affected by neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and stroke, while also supporting their families and carers.

The centre is open Monday to Friday, offering a wide range of services, including physiotherapy, oxygen treatment, hydrotherapy, exercise classes, occupational therapy, counselling, therapeutic leisure groups, nutritional advice, Pilates, and speech and language therapy.

Annual membership currently costs £35, with services and activities provided to members at no additional charge.

As a volunteer Neuro-acupuncturist, my approach is evidence-informed and patient-centred, drawing on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to support members’ comfort and wellbeing alongside conventional treatment.

I am delighted to join the team and contribute to this meaningful work. I look forward to supporting members on their individual journeys and working alongside my CNC colleagues to make a positive difference to their wellbeing.

If you or someone you know would like to learn more about membership and the support available, please contact the CNC team through the Chilterns Neuro Centre website.
