15 Months of Care, Learning and Unforgettable Memories....

Kit Li

Today is my last day as a volunteer neuro-acupuncturist at Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, where I have used a TCM approach to provide supportive care for people living with cancer. Time has gone by so quickly, and it is hard to believe that 15 months have already passed.

During this time, I have met many patients living with different types of cancer, including breast, vulvar, lung and prostate cancer, as well as advanced cancers. Each person has their own story, challenges and hopes. Being able to support them and play a small part in their care has been a real privilege.

This experience has taught me so much, both professionally and personally. It has helped me understand that caring for someone means more than treating their symptoms. It also means listening, showing kindness and understanding what matters to them. My patients’ courage and trust have left me with many unforgettable memories.

I feel very lucky to have worked alongside such a friendly and supportive nursing team, administration team, fellow volunteers and other hospice staff. Thank you for welcoming me, supporting my work and making me feel part of the team.

As I take a break to focus on my Master’s studies, I will carry these valuable experiences with me. They will continue to guide my learning and the way I care for my patients. This is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this special journey. I will miss you all, but this is not goodbye, just until we meet again....
